Computer Applications Show kicks off Thursday

The Taipei Computer Applications Show, one of the major consumer electronics exhibitions in Taiwan, kicked off Thursday in Taipei unveiling the very best and the latest gadgets consisting of digital imaging, multimedia, consumer electronics, gaming, home entertainment, telephony, and more.

Organized by the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the five-day event is hosting a slew of Taiwan-based personal computer and cellular vendors, including Acer, Asustek Computer, MSI, Gigabyte, HTC, and telecom operators Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone Telecommunications, and Taiwan Telecom.

Foreign exhibitors at the show include Epson, Canon and Nikon from Japan, and Chinese cellular/PC vendors Oppo and Lenovo Group, who stole the highlight on Thursday with a one-time, NT$10 IdeaPad100 laptop promotion.

The lucky winner of the laptop, nicknamed Wei-wei, said she had lined up for Lenovo’s special draw in the wee hours of the morning before the show started at 10 a.m.

“I came across Lenovo’s website yesterday and learned that there will be a special promotion on the first day of the show, and so I decided to try out my luck at the draw,” she said.

The IdeaPad100, a lightweight and inexpensive laptop budgeted at NT$9,990 in electronic stores across Taiwan, houses the Intel Celeron N2940 1.83GHz processor, Intel HD Graphics, 4GB of RAM, and Lenovo BGN Wireless connectivity.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s cellular giant HTC is giving out VIP cards for every purchase made during the five-day show. Customers are also eligible to receive several giveaways, including phone covers, selfie stick, Speedo kit bag, and much more.

The exhibition will feature several areas where visitors can experience certain high-tech developments, including multimedia, gaming, and home entertainment. Visitors can also experience the thrill in building their own remote control robot using Lego pieces

To attract more visitors, the TCA said this year's event will host several gaming machine developers, such as US-based Alienware and Acer’s Logi-A Team, to share their gaming experiences with enthusiasts.
