Sao Tome and Principe’s foreign minister arrive on a state visit

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) issued an official statement through its press release Monday welcoming Sao Tome and Principe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Manuel Salvador dos Ramos to the Republic of China.

The minister arrived in Taiwan on Sunday evening with his wife, Sabina dos Ramos, including the islands’ Director of Foreign Policy Urbino Botelho and his secretary Manela Vila Nova. The delegates are on a state visit from July 26 to 31, reports said.

Ramos received the invitation from MOFA while he was in a gathering in East Timor for the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLC) on July 24.

MOFA Minister David Lin said he plans to discuss with his foreign counterparts about the Blue Economy, a business model which Ramos is a huge advocate.

The Blue Economy aims to make use of the sea and its resources for sustainable economic development. It also tackles environmental and related problems in new ways.

The visiting minister is expected to pay a visit to President Ma Ying-jeou later in the day to discuss topics on Taiwan’s possible contribution to Sao Tome and Principe’s economic developments.
