LIVERPOOL, England (AP) -- Liverpool says it has signed Belgium striker Christian Benteke from Premier League rival Aston Villa.
Villa said on its website that Liverpool had "met the release clause in his contract" -- which British media put at 32.5 million pounds ($50.7 million).
Liverpool said in a statement that the 24-year-old forward has signed "a long term contract", without giving details, after completing a medical in London.
Benteke joined Villa from Genke in 2012 and scored 49 goals in 101 appearances for the Midlands club.
Benteke said he wanted to thank his new club's owners and management "for their massive effort to bring me here."
