Opportunities available despite slight rise in jobless rate

Taipei, July 22 (CNA) Demand for workers remains high despite a slight uptick in Taiwan's unemployment rate in the month of June because of an influx of new university graduates into the job market, an online manpower agency said Wednesday. The online job brokerage site, 104 Corporation (104 ????), said it averaged about 624,000 job listings per month from January to July of 2015, up 25 percent from a year earlier. Ricky Hong (???), general manager of 104 Corporation, said the sizable increase in listings indicates that companies are having an increasingly hard time recruiting workers and are facing greater workforce instability than in previous years. Hong expected companies' efforts to hire workers to slow down in the second half of the year when job recruiting enters its traditionally slow period, a trend, he said, that has already started to emerge this month. The manpower agency was responding to the latest unemployment figures reported by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS, ???????) on Wednesday. According to the DGBAS, the jobless rate in June was 3.71 percent, up by 0.09 percentage points from May but down 0.21 percentage points from a year earlier. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.76 percent, up marginally from the 3.75 percent rate reported in May. (By Chen Pei-yu and Lance Yau)
