New immigrant association to build book storage rooms

A new immigrant association called “Grandmother’s Bridge” was officially established on July 16, and set up four book storage rooms in Chiayi County, providing over 100 foreign-language books to each of them.

Besides setting up the rooms, the association also supports the new immigrants and their second generation to pay visits to their home countries in Southeast Asia. The association has helped three mothers and children to visit Thailand and Cambodia this year, to meet the relatives on their mother’s side and learn the local language.

Lee Ruan-shang, the director general of the association, indicated that by 2025, there will be 13.5 percent of 20-year-olds who are foreign-born Taiwanese, and the association will aim to cultivate more foreign-born Taiwanese talent.
