Tigerair Taiwan to add more Taoyuan-Tokyo flights late August

Taipei, July 17 (CNA) Tigerair Taiwan, a joint venture between Taiwan's China Airlines and Singapore's Tiger Airways, said Friday it will increase its services on the Taoyuan-Tokyo route during the autumn peak travel period. From Aug. 23 to Oct. 22, the budget airline will offer three more weekly round-trip flights between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Tokyo Narita International Airport, bringing the total number to 10 each week. The new flights will be operated on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, said the airline, which is currently operating daily services on the route. The services could be specially tailored for those heading Japan for foliage watching during the period, traditionally a travel peak. Launched on April 2, the Tokyo route has enjoyed some 85 percent ridership on average, the carrier said. Tokyo was the airline's fifth international destination, after Singapore, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Macau. Last week, the carrier also announced it will operate daily Kaohsiung-Tokyo flights starting Sept. 1. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
