Death toll from water park explosion rises to 7 (update)

Taipei, July 16 (CNA) A 19-year-old college student died Thursday of injuries sustained in a fiery explosion at a water park in New Taipei last month, bringing the death toll to seven.
Lin Chih-yun , who suffered severe burns and complications such as sepsis, was taken off life support Thursday at Taoyuan General Hospital with the consent of her family, doctors said.
She was the second victim to die in as many days in the wake of the flash fire that occurred on June 27, when cornstarch powder ignited at a party at Formosa Fun Coast water park, injuring nearly 500 people.
As of Thursday, 382 of the burn victims remained hospitalized, with 250 in intensive care units, 185 of whom were in critical condition, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The ministry's data showed that the people who were injured in the fire suffered burns over 44 percent of their bodies on average, with 248 sustaining burns over 40 percent of their bodies, and 21 suffering burns over 80 percent of their bodies.
Meanwhile, 61.6 percent of the imported cadaver skin - totaling 410,800 square cm - had been used for grafts as of Thursday and another 60,000 square cm was expected to arrive from the United States later in the day.
