Bilingual website on 2nd Sino-Japanese War launched

Taipei, July 16 (CNA) A website on China's War of Resistance against Japan (1937-1945) and the retrocession of Taiwan to the Republic of China (ROC) was launched in early July, with the content offered in both Chinese and English. Visitors to the site can find information about the historical event, following a timeline that begins with the Marco Polo Bridge Incident on July 7, 1937 and ends in October of 1945 when the Nationalist Chinese army was preparing to take over Taiwan from Japan. The website also features more current information such as President Ma Ying-jeou's (???) presentation of commemorative medals to 25 WWII veterans in mid-June, a military display on July 4, and an international conference that was held July 7-9 to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the war. Under the heading of "journals," readers can find abstracts of papers presented at the conference, which was attended by some 200 scholars. Other headings such as documentaries, folk songs, photos, special exhibition and academic seminars are under construction, as more information is added to the Chinese-language content. To mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the war, the government has organized a series of commemorative events, some of which are scheduled for the second half of the year. A special exhibition featuring the Eight-Year War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is being held at National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei from July 7, 2015 to June 2016. Another exhibition about the toll of the war, the victory and aftermath will be held at the Armed Forces Museum and Academia Historica in Taipei from Aug. 15 to Nov. 28. The website, http://en.70thvictory.com.tw/, is being hosted by Academia Historica and maintained by the Central News Agency. (By Lo Kuang-jen and Kuo Chung-han)
