Envoy brings Honduran flair to Taipei Jazz Festival

Taipei, July 15 (CNA) Honduran band Hibriduz Jazz will be performing at the Taipei Jazz Festival this year on the recommendation of Honduras' ambassador to Taiwan, bringing a different kind of energy to the annual jazz bash. The eight-member Hibriduz Jazz band will perform on the first day of the three-day festival at Daan Forest Park on the evening of July 17, complementing other acts at the festival from Taiwan, Italy and the United States.
Highly popular in Honduras, Hibriduz Jazz is hoping to continue presenting high-quality Honduran culture to the world after touring Europe in March. "This is the best gift Honduras can give in return for the Taiwanese people's kindness and passion," said Ambassador Rafael Fernando Sierra Quesada, the driving force behind bringing the band to Taiwan. "Thank you Rafael Sierra for making it possible for these young Hondurans to dream," said the band's manager Mario Guevara on its website, crediting Sierra for his efforts in having the band appear at Daan Forest Park. Sierra won the positive recognition of many Taiwanese in May with his handling of incident in which he was falsely accused of a hit-and-run crash with a scooter driven by a teenager who did not have a driver's license. Sierra decided not to have the teenager prosecuted or ask for compensation, and the boy and his mother apologized to Sierra and invited him to have a breakfast at their breakfast store to thank him for his kindness.
