Asustek forecasts double-digit shipment growth in Q3

Asustek forecasts double-digit shipment growth in Q3

Taipei, July 14 (CNA) Taiwan's Asustek Computer Inc. forecasted on Tuesday that its third-quarter shipments of notebooks, tablets and smartphones will increase by at least 10 percent sequentially despite a shrinking PC industry and decelerating smartphone demand. Breaking down sales numbers by product, the PC maker expects its smartphone shipments to grow 20 percent in the July-September quarter, while tablet and notebook shipments will each grow at least 10 percent, Asustek Chief Financial Officer David Chang (???) told reporters at the Taiwan launch of the company's low-cost ZenPad tablet range. Asustek CEO Jerry Shen (???) said overall growth could be driven partially by Asustek's popular ZenFone 2 smartphone series and that the company also has"high expectations"for its new ZenPad. Shen noted that Europe and the Asia-Pacific region are the two biggest markets for Asustek's tablets, followed by the United States. China is another major market that Asustek needs to address by providing more feature-rich, low-cost products, he said. On July 8, Asustek surprisingly trimmed its 2015 annual notebook shipments by 12.3 percent to 20 million units, citing stagnant business prospects for the PC industry. But the company maintained its smartphone shipment target of 17 million-25 million for 2015 and expects to ship 7 million-9 million tablets this year. Asustek shares fell 4.26 percent to close at NT$281 in Taipei on Tuesday, versus a 0.09 percent rise in the broader market. (By Jeffrey Wu)
