Universiti Malaya sets up Taiwan Resources Center for Chinese Studies

Kuala Lumpur, July 14 (CNA)
The National Central Library of the Republic of China and Universiti Malaya signed a memorandum of cooperation for the establishment of the Taiwan Resources Center for Chinese Studies at the university.
The new center, which will initially stock 550 different Chinese-language books in addition to audio-visual materials and e-resources published in Taiwan, was inaugurated the same day.
Tseng Shu-hsien, director-general of the National Central Library, said at the opening ceremony that the new facility will help promote Chinese studies from a Taiwanese perspective and increase the influence of Taiwanese research and publications in Malaysia.
Tseng also presented a special gift to Mohd Amin Bin Jalaludin, president of Universiti Malaya, at the ceremony -- a reproduced copy of the woodcut print manuscript of Su Shi (1037-1101), a famous Song Dynasty poet and writer also known as Su Dung-po.
The new center will be the second Taiwan Resources Center for Chinese Studies in Malaysia. In 2003, the library signed a similar memorandum of cooperation with the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.
It will also be the 15th center the library has set up around the world in cooperation with academic institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Latvia, Vietnam and Malaysia. (By T. H. Kuo and Lillian Lin)
