Nearly 4% of Taiwan's population are public workers: statistics

Taipei, July 12 (CNA) There were some 906,000 people working in Taiwan's public sector in 2014, accounting for 3.87 percent of the entire population, which stood at 23.43 million that year, according to Examination Yuan statistics released Sunday.
The number represents a decline of 2,486 people compared with the previous year, the tallies show.
The statistics also indicate that public sector manpower accounted for 7.82 percent of the labor force in Taiwan in 2014, and 8.13 percent of the employed.
Among the public workers, 347,000 were public servants working in government units, who were employed based on quotas regulated in the organization rules of the units.
Another 558,000 were employees at other public organs such as state-run enterprises, according to the Examination Yuan, the highest authority for administering all national exams and which is responsible for the examinations and management of all civil service personnel.
