VIENNA (AP) -- The world Alpine skiing championships will take place in Saalbach-Hinterglemm the next time the hosting rights are awarded to Austria -- likely in 2023.
The Austrian ski federation says the resort in the province of Salzburg has won an internal voting against the only other candidate, St. Anton in Tyrol.
Saalbach-Hinterglemm, which hosted the two-yearly event in 1991, would be the first Austrian venue for the worlds since Schladming in 2013.
The next world championships are in St. Moritz, Switzerland, in 2017, followed by Are, Sweden, in 2019. FIS will elect the organizers of the 2021 event next year, with Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, the only candidate.
