Foxconn chairman seeks business opportunities in India

New Delhi, July 9 (CNA) Accompanied by some 60 senior executives from his enterprises, founder and chairman of Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology Group (???) Terry Gou (???) is visiting India to evaluate business opportunities in the South Asian nation. Gou arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday night, and was met by 60 senior executives from different enterprises in his conglomerate, including those dedicated to cloud computing, mobile devices, low-end mobile devices, the Internet of Things, big data, as well as smart living and smart working, who have traveled to India in advance. Shortly after his arrival, the hard-working Taiwanese electronics tycoon held meetings on Wednesday night with executives of some 20 Indian innovative enterprises. The meetings lasted until early morning Thursday, according to an insider source who wished to remain anonymous. Gou was expected to continue holding talks on Thursday with his possible Indian partners and to visit related enterprises based in the vicinities of the greater area of Delhi, the source revealed, adding that he is scheduled to visit other provinces of India beginning Friday. The source indicated that Gou has a high interest in evaluating possible investment opportunities in India in light of the active attitude he has shown during his current visit, stressing however that the tycoon would not make any important announcement during his stay in the South Asian nation. The main purpose of Gou's visit is to evaluate in a pragmatic way commercial opportunities that could exist in the Indian market, he added. According to a report of the Indian daily "Hindustan Times," Foxconn, the world's largest contract electronics maker, is planning to invest some US$20 billion in India, and to set up a science and technology industrial park that will cost about US$5 billion.
