HTC shares fall as Q2 loss outweighs four quarters of profits

Taipei, July 7 (CNA) Shares of HTC Corp. (???) fell on Tuesday after the Taiwanese smartphone maker reported a net loss of NT$8.03 billion (US$260 million) for the second quarter after running a profit the previous four quarters. HTC announced on Monday that its quarterly revenue was NT$33.01 billion, hitting the low end of the company's forecast of NT$33 billion-NT$36 billion. The company had an operating loss of NT$5.14 billion and a loss per share of NT$9.7 for the quarter, sending the company back into the red after it earned NT$4.52 per share during the 12 months from the second quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2015. As of 10:51 a.m. Tuesday, HTC shares had fallen 0.95 percent to NT$73.1 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The stock has fallen to its lowest point in a decade after HTC cut its sales forecast by as much as 35 percent on June 5, citing lower-than-expected global demand for high-end Android devices and the company's weak sales in China. The Taoyuan-based handset maker is pinning its hopes for a rebound on lowering costs and improving operational efficiency. It will also reportedly launch a new smartphone dubbed the "HTC Aero" in October that will feature "groundbreaking" imaging technology to improve low-light performance. (By Jeffrey Wu)
