Death toll in New Taipei fiery blast rises to 3

Taipei, July 6 (CNA) A 20-year-old man died Monday of wounds sustained in a recent fiery blast at a water park, increasing the death toll in the incident to three, health officials said. Chen Tien-shun, who suffered burns to about 50 percent of his body, died after 10 days in an intensive care unit at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linkou District, New Taipei. In accordance with the wishes of his family, Chen was transferred to his own home in Banciao District in New Taipei shortly before his death. Five of Chen's friends who were at the June 27 party at Formosa Fun Coast Water Park when the blast occurred are still in intensive care. The incident occurred during a stage performance, when a colored cornstarch sprayed during the event ignited into a fireball that injured nearly 500 people. Some 237 of the wounded were listed as in critical condition as of Sunday. Two of those injured -- a 20-year-old female and a 19-year-old male -- died last week of their injuries.
