SYDNEY (AP) -- The North Queensland Cowboys rebounded from last week's first loss in 12 matches to beat the St. George Illawarra Dragons 18-12 on Saturday in the National Rugby League.
The win, North Queensland's seventh in a row on the road, kept the Cowboys in second place. The first-place Brisbane Broncos were among eight teams with weekend byes ahead of Wednesday's deciding State of Origin match between New South Wales and Queensland at Brisbane.
The Dragons lost their fourth match in a row.
On Friday, Bryce Cartwright set up two of Penrith's four tries in the Panthers' 20-6 win over the defending champion and third-place South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Manly plays Cronulla on Sunday and Wests Tigers take on Parramatta on Monday to conclude the abbreviated 17th round.
