PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka (AP) -- Sri Lanka's Dimuth Karunaratne and Upul Tharanga put together an impressive, unbeaten 70-run stand on a seam-friendly pitch to defy Pakistan's bowlers after being sent in to bat on Friday in the third test.
At lunch, Sri Lanka was 85-1 after having lost opener Kaushal Silva caught behind off Sarfraz Ahmed with only 15 runs scored.
Tharanga, who replaced star batsman Kumar Sangakkara, looked solid and made some neat drives on the off-side. Pakistan unsuccessfully reviewed an lbw appeal when he was on 23.
At lunch, Karunaratne was on 34 off 75 balls with five fours while Tharanga was on 39 in 70 deliveries with five boundaries.
