Water park appeals provisional attachment

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Formosa Fun Coast water park is appealing a Shilin District Court decision to approve the New Taipei City request for provisional attachments on its assets after the color powder blast, reports said Friday.
Following the deaths of two victims and injuries to almost 500 people, the court went along Thursday with the attachments worth NT$169 million (US$5.4 million) on the assets of the water park and the organizing companies, Play Color Co. and Juipo International Marketing Co.
However, Formosa Fun Coast filed an appeal with the Shilin District Court Friday against the provisional attachments.
According to the Chinese-language Apple Daily, an attorney for New Taipei in the case accused the water park management of not wanting to shoulder responsibility and of not wanting to pay compensation. Formosa Fun Coast “is not worried about pressure from public opinion, it’s only afraid of the provisional attachments taking down the company’s financial situation,” the newspaper quoted attorney Lee Yung-yu as saying.
The company’s assets might not be enough to correspond to the NT$169 million, which was brought by only 13 victims, Lee said, predicting more would come forward.
It was not immediately clear when the Shilin District Court would rule on Formosa Fun Coast’s appeal.
Earlier, water park CEO Chen Huei-ying already faced sharp criticism over comments which seemed to brush off responsibility for the disaster. She told reporters that the water park had only rented out its site to the organizers, seeming to say that Formosa Fun Coast was not responsible.
