Central bank leaves interest rates unchanged

Taipei, June 25 (CNA) The Central Bank of the Republic of China decided to leave its key interest rates unchanged upon conclusion of a quarterly policymaking meeting Thursday.
It is the 16th consecutive quarter in which the central bank has kept interest rates intact, and the decision had been previously anticipated by the market.
Market analysts said the central bank aims to keep liquidity high in a bid to boost the local economy, which has shown signs of weakening due to lower-than-expected exports and private consumption and investment. The latest decision means that the central bank has maintained a discount rate of 1.875 percent, the rate of accommodations with collateral at 2.25 percent and the rate of accommodations without collateral at 4.125 percent.
