Tigerair Taiwan to end Taoyuan-Chiang Mai services

Tigerair Taiwan to end Taoyuan-Chiang Mai services

Taipei, June 25 (CNA) Budget carrier Tigerair Taiwan, a joint venture between Taiwan's China Airlines and Singapore's Tiger Airways, said Thursday that it will end services between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Chiang Mai in northern Thailand from Aug. 3, in reflection of market demand. The carrier said it will shift its focus to the Northeast Asia market in the wake of more travel interest in that region. Tigerair, which launched flights to Tokyo's Narita Airport in April, will start offering services to Okinawa later this month and to Osaka in early July. Even more flights could be added on those routes, the airline said, adding that a Taoyuan-Tokyo (Haneda) service is likely to be in place no later than next January. Those who have already bought tickets to Chiang Mai will get full refunds, change their destination to Singapore, Bangkok or Macau without extra cost, or make up the difference in price to get tickets to Tokyo, Okinawa or Osaka, according to Tigerair. After Tigerair's move, V Air, a low-cost subsidiary of Taiwan's TransAsia Airways, will be the only low-cost carrier in Taiwan operating flights between Taoyuan and Chiang Mai. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
