BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) -- The head of the European Olympic Committees says he would prefer the second European Games to be in Western Europe following the inaugural event in Azerbaijan.
The 2019 games were originally awarded to the Netherlands, which pulled out two weeks ago following a political spat over hosting cost.
Pat Hickey suggests a Western European host would help to ensure "geographical spread" after Azerbaijan, adding "that could be still possible, but if not, we'll proceed wherever we think the best place is."
Hickey said four cities expressed interest in holding the 2019 games after the Netherlands withdrew, but declined to name them. A decision is expected by the end of the year, he added.
