Authorities fine banquet halls for using expired food items

Accompanied by consumer protection officers, health authorities in Taipei confirmed Wednesday that a number of food items stocked by wedding banquet halls were found to have long passed their shelf life.

A total of eight wedding banquet halls, including the ITB Plaza33 will be fined NT$700,000 for failing to meet food safety regulations. Authorities have already requested for the removal of the expired items.

The businesses named for irregularities include: The Garden Taipei, Le Maree, New Palace International, VeryWed, Denwell, ITB Plaza33, ATT Butterfly Dining, and Chin Chin Garden Restaurant.

According to authorities, the inspected items found to have passed their expiration date cover a broad range of items, including parmesan cheese powder, condensed coconut milk, vinegar, and spices.

Officials blamed the restaurateurs for not listing and separating their expired food items for recycling in accordance to regulations.
