17 flights affected by thunderstorms at Taoyuan airport

Taipei, June 23 (CNA) A flight arriving from China was forced to return to Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province Tuesday as thunderstorms affected air traffic at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport that afternoon, one of 17 flights whose schedules were disrupted by the heavy downpours.
Airport officials said more than 2,000 passengers were affected by the thunderstorms, which caused flooding in parts of the airport between 4:55 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Two flights that were scheduled to land there were forced to land instead at Xiaogang Airport in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, more than 300 kilometers away.
Landings and take-offs returned to normal after the weather warning was lifted at 6:30 p.m., the officials said. (By Bien Chin-feng and S.C. Chang)
