VENTURA, Calif. (AP) -- A single-engine plane registered to Oscar-winning composer James Horner has crashed in Southern California, but the identity of the one person who died has not been released.

Ventura County fire spokesman Mike Lindbery says the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Los Padres National Forest.

The pilot was killed. No one else was on board.

Jay Cooper, an attorney for Horner, says the plane was one of several owned by the 61-year-old composer. He says no one has heard from Horner and that "if he wasn't in it, he would have called."

Horner won two Oscars for his work on the 1997 film "Titanic."

The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane was an S-312 Tucano MK1 turbo-prop with two seats.
