Wu Ke-xi receives best actress award at Japan film festival

Taipei, June 21 (CNA) Taiwanese actress Wu Ke-xi received the Asia International Competition Best Actress Award at the 2015 SSFF & ASIA Film Festival held in mid-June in Osaka.
Wu, who starred in two shorts at this year's SSFF & ASIA festival, won the award for her role in "The Place on the Sea" (2014), an ethereal, other-worldly short, set in Kaohsiung about a ghost who visits a palace in the sea with her lover for one final dance.
Wu said this was the first award she had received in more than 10 years as an actress.
Calling the prize a big surprise and thanking the judges for choosing her, Wu said she was thrilled and touched that her performance had been so popular with the audience and indicated she hoped to learn more about acting and share her experience with the public.
Many Japanese festival goers said they were amazed at how different Wu looked in the two films and praised her as a "real actress" for her ability to interpret such different roles, according to the festival's official website.
Wu first caught the attention of film critics in "Ice Poison" (2014), directed by Myanmar-born Taiwanese director Midi Zhao, which won a best film award at the 68th Edinburgh International Film Festival last year.
