Foreign spouses make zongzi with mothers-in-law

The Wiregrass Community Development Association in Fenglin township, Hualien County, held a zongzi making event, inviting the new immigrants and their mothers-in-law to take part, which not only puts the Dragon Boat Festival culture into practice, but also enables the foreign migrants to get a better knowledge of the local culture.

Tsai Jing-lon, the secretary-general of Wiregrass Community, said that the association holds the zongzi-making event every year, and Fenglin Township is one of the locations with the largest new immigrant population, so the association arranged the zongzi-making event to have foreign spouses join in with their mothers-in-law, so they could have a chance to work together and get to know each other better.

Two new immigrants from Indonesia took part in the event and shared the Indonesian way of making zongzi by boiling them in hot water. The spouses and their mothers-in-law got to learn and share ideas with each other, making the event meaningful and enjoyable.
