SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Authorities in Puerto Rico say a 24-year-old Frenchman who became ill on a flight to Portugal died after the plane made an emergency stop in the U.S. territory.
Police Lt. Ricardo Haddock says that the man complained of severe chest pain shortly after the Air Portugal plane departed Panama. He identified the man as Sebastien Marc Dionsimoni of Sainte-Julie, France.
Haddock says the man was taken to the hospital early Thursday but died several hours later. He says X-rays show he was carrying something in his stomach, although forensic officials are still trying to determine the substance.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken over the case. A spokesman did not immediately return a message for comment.
