90 mm of rain pours onto Taipei's Wenshan District in one hour

Taipei, June 7 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) on Sunday warned of torrential rain in Taipei and New Taipei, with one part of Taipei getting nearly 90 millimeters of rain in a single hour. From 2:50 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Taipei's Wenshan District (???) recorded 89.5 mm of rainfall, bringing the district's accumulated rainfall in the afternoon to 125 mm, the CWB said. Taipei's downtown Xinyi District (???) also recorded over 50 mm of rainfall from noon to 3:50 p.m. Sunday, according to the bureau. For other northern areas of Taiwan, the CWB has warned of heavy rain in Yilan County, Hualien County and the country's western mountains. Following the heavy rains on Sunday, the Water Resource Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs also issued a level-one flood warning for Taipei and a level-two flood alert for New Taipei. The Taipei City Fire Department said it received 15 reports of flood in Wenshan District as of 4 p.m. Sunday, but all flooding alerts were later lifted. (By Wang Shu-fen and Jeffrey Wu)
