EVA Air to launch services to Istanbul in 2016

Taipei, June 5 (CNA) EVA Air, Taiwan's second-largest carrier, said it will operate services between Taipei and Istanbul starting next year in hopes of attracting leisure and business travelers to transfer via Turkey. EVA said its new services will allow smoother flight connections to the major cities in Europe -- including Frankfurt, Barcelona, Lisbon, Copenhagen and Stockholm -- because it takes no more than two to three hours from Istanbul. On Thursday, EVA launched code-share services with Turkish Airlines, which currently operates daily flights between Taipei and Istanbul. Regarding Taipei-Istanbul service by EVA itself next year, the code-sharing program will be applied reciprocally with Turkish Airlines placing its code on Eva-operated flights, according to EVA. Once in operation, passengers from both airlines will benefit from a higher number of combined flight frequencies for better connectivity and increased travel flexibility between the two countries, it said. The two carriers are both members of Star Alliance, one of the three largest passenger airline strategic alliances in the world. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
