Apple Watch to hit store shelves in Taiwan on June 26

Taipei, June 5 (CNA) The Apple Watch, the most closely watched wearable device in the world, is scheduled to go on sale in Taiwan on June 26, according to U.S.-based consumer electronics giant Apple Inc. In a statement released on its website Thursday, the Apple Watch will be available in the Apple Online Store, Apple's retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers in Taiwan. In addition to Taiwan, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain and Switzerland will join the next round of sales of the Apple Watch, which was unveiled in April and sparked enthusiasm toward wearable devices in the world. The long-anticipated Apple Watch in Taiwan features a wide range of unique technology, including the latest touch technology -- Force Touch, which will allow users to change some settings by pressing firmly on the screen. With the presence of Force Touch on its retina display, the Apple Watch is able to sense the difference between a tap and a press, providing a new way to quickly and easily access relevant controls, Apple said. According to Apple, software developers have launched a great number of apps for the Apple Watch, adding that for example, in Taiwan, Apple Watch wearers are expected to be able to find locations nearby where they can rent public bicycles. Market analysts said that after the launch of the Apple Watch in the global market in April, Apple has sold about 7 million units worldwide. "The response to the Apple Watch has surpassed our expectations in every way, and we are thrilled to bring it to more customers around the world," Jeff Williams, Apple's senior vice president of Operations, said in a statement. "We're also making great progress with the backlog of Apple Watch orders, and we thank our customers for their patience," Williams said. Due to strong global demand, it is possible that only 1,000 Apple Watches will be allocated to Taiwan's stores in the initial stage of the sale, market analysts said, adding that the sale of the Apple Watch on June 26 is expected to prompt many local Apple fans to line up in front of the retail stores. Analysts said that with the Apple Watch to go on sale in additional markets in the world, Taiwan's manufacturers in Apple's supply chain could benefit, accordingly. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (??) is believed to become one of the assemblers of the Apple Watch, while integrated circuit packaging and testing services provider Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (???) has provided Apple with its system-in-package (SiP) technology. (By Jalen Chung and Frances Huang)
