Energy blue chips drive rise in Thai shares

Thai shares rose 0.57 percent Friday, led by gains in energy blue chips amid rebounding global oil prices.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand's benchmark SET Index gained 4.11 points to close at 724.98, as trading totaled 2.41 billion shares worth 13.65 billion baht.
Banking stocks also rose after most announced better-than-expected third-quarter net profits.
Oil and gas giant PTT PCL gained 1.8 percent to 222 baht, Krung Thai Bank PCL rose 4 percent to 12.90 baht and petrochemical company The Aromatics (Thailand) PCL rose 1.4 percent to 35.75 baht on third-quarter earnings hopes.
Automotive parts maker Aapico Hitech PCL shot up 11.9 percent to 19.80 baht on expectations it will boost revenue in 2007 after it said it plans to buy 57 percent of KPN Automotive PCL.
