Chu wins 4 stars in magazine’s opinion poll

New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu on Thursday saw his approval rating drop to 4 stars this year from the previous 4.5 after a recent poll conducted by the Global Views Monthly on approval ratings of Taiwan’s city mayors and county magistrates.

The poll showed Chu’s approval rating to be amongst the top eight this year, but due to the rising popularity of Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu, Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te, and the poll’s newcomer Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je, Chu’s rating edged down slightly.

When asked about his reaction to winning the 4 stars this year following the release of the magazine’s report, Chu said he will always work harder regardless of the number of stars received.

According to the report, the public’s opinion regarding economy and employment remains unchanged at 42 percent when compared to last year, categories which observers believe Chu could do better to improve his ratings next year.

For four years in a row, Lai came up with 5 stars, a rating which Chen also enjoys for three years consecutive.

The magazine’s poll also provided ratings for the 16 county magistrates in Taiwan, which showed that Hualien County Magistrate Fu Kun-qi again won 5 stars in 2015, his sixth year in a row.
