KMT legislator calls for establishment of direct Kinmen-Xiamen flight

In a visit by head of Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) Zhang Zhijun to Kinmen Sunday, KMT Legislator Yang Ying-hsiung expressed his hope that would allow fruits and seafood items from Taiwan clear through customs faster in China.

Yang also urged for the establishment of direct flights from Kinmen to Xiamen in China, saying that the current option to traverse between the two sides is by boat.

Zhang in response said the direct flight would mark an important milestone on cross-strait relations since both sides used to be in the spotlight of military conflicts, adding that the link would only bring benefits to the people.

Zhang has been in Taiwan since Saturday for a two-day meeting with his Taiwanese counterpart, Minister of Mainland Council (MAC) Andrew Hsia, to discuss issues of mutual concern, including establishing Taiwan as a transfer hub for Chinese travelers.

The TAO leader said he will bring the matters discussed during the meeting with local officials in Kinmen to his counterparts in China, and they will work on the proposed plans the sooner the possible.
