Vietjet to increase flights on Taipei-Ho Chi Minh route

Taipei, May 21 (CNA) Vietnamese budget carrier VietJet Air, which started operations in Taiwan last year, said Thursday it will provide two more round-trip services per week between Taipei and Ho Chi Minh, starting next month. With the introduction of the new flights on June 18, the airline said, it will have a regular daily service between the two cities, offering fares as low as NT$350 (US$11.5) for a one-way ticket. The flight will depart daily from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 8 p.m. and arrive in Ho Chih Minh City at 10:25 p.m. (local time), taking three hours and 25 minutes. On the return leg, the flight will leave Ho Chi Minh at 2:30 p.m. and land in Taiwan at 6:55 p.m. The airline had said earlier it was also planning to launch new services from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to Taichung in central Taiwan and Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, to meet growing demand. Vietjet, which started operations at the end of 2011, has forecast accumulated passenger volume of 20 million by the end of 2015. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
