MADRID (AP) -- Spain's regional Basque Country government is apologizing after the nation's Civil Guard police force was mistakenly listed on an official Internet page as a terrorist group.
The regional government says in a statement Wednesday the Civil Guard appeared on a list of groups and individuals that also includes ETA, the armed separatist group that wants an independent Basque state. The statement said Spain's Interior Ministry was told about the mistake that was made as the site was being remodeled.
Civil Guard members were among those heavily targeted by ETA during its deadly campaign for a Basque homeland that killed 829 people. ETA declared a permanent cease-fire in 2011 but has not disbanded.
ETA is labeled a terror group by Spain, the European Union and the United States.
