Ma's anniversary speech to stress cross-strait peace dividend

Taipei, May 19 (CNA) President Ma Ying-jeou (???)will call on the people to cherish hard-won peace across the Taiwan Strait in a speech Wednesday marking the seventh anniversary of his inauguration, his spokesman said Tuesday. Charles Chen (???)said the president will tell the people that over the past seven years, his government has achieved its administrative goals of "bringing prosperity to Taiwan, creating peace across the strait and making friends around the world." With the joint efforts of the government and the people, Chen quoted Ma, "we have set the direction for the development of the Republic of China -- a direction that should be continued no matter who takes over the rein of government" in 2016. Ma promises that his government will keep taking good care of the less privileged, promoting industrial upgrade and integrating resources for promoting international trade, according to Chen. With only one year remaining in his second four-year term, the president pledges that he will work even harder to overcome all difficulties and show that he will be responsible for "all of the people and future generations" as well as "for Taiwan's sustainable development."
