20 brands of drugs ordered off shelves

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday ordered a total of 20 brands of drugs and pills off shelves because they included unauthorized ingredients.
The most prominent products on the list were HC Noritle cold vitamin capsules, which had been subjected to a visit by inspectors to its manufacturing plant.
Tien Liang Biotech Co., Ltd., a company based in the New Taipei City district of Hsichih, was found by the health inspectors to have been using ingredients which did not comply with official regulations in its pill manufacturing process.
Tien Liang had not applied for official permission to use the ingredients in its capsules or to import them, and would therefore be ordered to remove the product from sale, reports said.
The capsules against a cold were only one of 20 products on the list which included a wide range of pills, capsules, tablets and creams, the FDA said.
The violation of drug manufacturing regulations could lead to a fine ranging from NT$60,000 (US$1,970) to NT$300,000 (US$9,800), reports said.
Over the past few months, FDA inspections have often focused on the presence of illegally high levels of pesticides and insecticides in tea leaves and rose leaves used in the production of popular tea drinks sold at nationwide chains.
