Bomb hoax reported at Taoyuan airport

Taipei, May 15 (CNA) A Cathay Pacific flight was the subject of a bomb threat Friday after arriving at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, the country's main gateway, when one of its containers was discovered to be bearing a note reading "explosives, beware." The warning was found by ground staff when they were unloading cargo from flight CX450 from Hong Kong, which landed at 12:02 p.m., according to the airport. The airport immediately sent firemen, police officers and medical personnel to the scene to examine the container. But the airport later declared the emergency over after detecting no explosive substances in the container.
Airport authorities said the label could have been added in Hong Kong because the chances are extremely low for intruders to be able to access secure areas at the airport after the jet had landed. The carrier said it had reported the incident to its Hong Kong headquarters. Taoyuan airport police have also informed the Hong Kong airport of the incident in a bid to clarify the whole matter.
