Indonesia and Singapore to improve maritime cooperation

Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to improve relations in trade and investment in the maritime sector, highlighting five important issues in the agreement, according to the Jakarta Post.

The agreement was reached after Coordinating Maritime Minister Indroyono Soesilo met Singaporean Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang in Singapore on Friday.
Indroyono said that the meeting highlighted five points of the agreement, including cooperation in tourism, port development and expansion, and exploring investment and cooperation opportunities in the energy sector.

“Indonesia is exploring the possibility of increasing the number of tourists who pass through SIN Airport , especially tourists from East Asia like China,” Indroyono said in a press release.

“Indonesia also offers investment opportunities in power plants, smelters and other things,” he added.
Minister Lim, meanwhile, said that Singapore was ready to explore the opportunities and had offered cooperation and investment in the development of Dumai Port in Riau, which could serve the palm oil industry in Sumatra.
