French inmate appeals Indonesia death sentence

An Indonesian court has begun hearing an appeal by a French death-row inmate who filed a second complaint challenging the president’s refusal to grant him clemency, according to the Asian Correspondent.
Sergei Areski Atlaoui was to have been executed along with seven other drug convicts on March 29, but his second last-minute appeal to the Jakarta Administrative Court delayed his execution.
His earlier appeal of President Joko Widodo’s rejection of clemency was dismissed in April when the court ruled that clemency is the prerogative of the president.
On Wednesday, presiding Judge Ujang Abdullah read out the appeal in which Atlaoui’s lawyers claim that the reasons for the first ruling were contradictory.
