CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) -- Moldova has expelled one of the organizers of a rally in favor of the country's reunification with Romania.
The interior ministry said Thursday that Romanian citizen George Simion, who heads the pro-union Action 2012 group, was expelled for five years for activities that could endanger national security. The rally will take place on Saturday.
Moldova was part of Romania until 1940 when it was annexed to the Soviet Union under a Nazi-Soviet Pact
The countries generally enjoy close relations. Some 10 to 20 percent of Moldovans support reunification, polls show.
