Stranded TransAsia passengers return to Taiwan after 33-hour delay

Taipei, May 14 (CNA) A TransAsia Airways flight brought home 97 passengers from Japan Thursday who had been waiting there for a flight that was severely delayed due to mechanical problems on one of the airline's planes. The flight, which departed from Chitose Airport at 10 p.m. the previous day, landed at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 1 a.m. Thursday. The 97 passengers were some of 192 passengers who were scheduled to travel to Taiwan on TransAsia flight GE671 at 1:15 p.m. May 12. However, the plane developed problems with its hydraulic braking system and had to be towed off the runway upon landing in Japan. TransAsia denied Japanese media reports that the plane had to make an emergency landing. TransAsia said 85 of the 192 passengers booked on the return flight to Taiwan took other airlines Wednesday afternoon, while 10 changed their return date and the remainder waited for TransAsia to provide a new flight.
