Date of cross-strait negotiation heads yet to be finalized: MAC

Taipei, May 13 (CNA) A meeting between the head of Taiwans' Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), and his Chinese counterpart, the director of the Taiwan Affairs Office under China's State Council, is still being discussed and the timing has yet to be decided, an MAC source said Wednesday. The source was responding to media reports that Andrew Hsia's (???) first meeting with Zhang Zhijun (???) has been set to take place at the end of May. Hsia also said recently that the date of the meeting has yet to be finalized, but that he is hoping it could be in May "because we have a lot of issues that need to be discussed in the meeting." He also said that the venue of the meeting will be on outlying Kinmen Island as previously planned. Hsia said recently that issues on the agenda will touch on Taiwan as a transit stop for Chinese travelers, the establishment of representative offices on each side, the cross-Taiwan Strait trade in goods agreement and the controversial M503 flight route, as well as Taiwan's bid to join the China-initiated Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. In addition, the issues of water use on Kinmen, garbage flowing toward Kinmen from China, Chinese poaching and illegal sand dredging by Chinese vessels also have to be worked out.
