Sea warning on Typhoon Noul lifted

Taipei, May 11 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau lifted its sea warning for Typhoon Noul on Monday night but warned that parts of Taiwan could still be affected by showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday. The bureau lifted the sea warning at 8:30 p.m. as the typhoon moved away from Taiwan, already weakened because of low sea temperatures. The typhoon, centered 290 kilometers east-northeast of Taitung County, is moving in a northeast direction at a speed of between 52 and 76 kilometers per hour. Even as the storm moves north of the island, showers or thunderstorms from the typhoon's outer periphery and a weather front remain likely in the northern half of Taiwan before noon Tuesday, the bureau said. The bureau also warned of surges in coastal areas because of the typhoon and urged people heading to the Hengchun Peninsula in southern Taiwan or eastern and southwestern Taiwan as well as the outlying Penghu Islands to remain on alert.
