Warm, cloudy weather forecast on Mother's Day: CWB

Taipei, May 8 (CNA) Mostly cloudy weather is likely on Mother's Day on Sunday, with temperatures of between 22 and 31 degrees Celsius expected islandwide, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Friday. Forecasters said rainfall during daytime hours will be limited to eastern Taiwan and mountainous areas in central and southern Taiwan, but they warned of more unstable weather later Sunday as Typhoon Noul approaches, with rain likely across the island. The bureau said it could issue a sea warning for the storm on Mother's Day and predicted rain in eastern and southern Taiwan through next Tuesday. However, because Noul's structure could be weakened after it makes landfall in Luzon in the Philippines before heading toward Taiwan, its impact on Taiwan might be limited, the bureau said. Whether a land warning is issued for Taiwan will depend on how the storm develops, it said. As of Friday noon, Noul was centered 1,500 kilometers southeast of Taiwan's southernmost point of Eluanbi, moving west-northwest at 20 km per hour. The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 144 kph, with gusts of up to 180 kph, the bureau said. (By Lee Hsin-Yin)
