Typhoon Noul - or Dodong - enters the Philippines

Typhoon "Noul," known as "Dodong" in the Philippines, has entered the Philippine area of responsibility, according to the weather bureau (PAGASA) of the Philippines.

PAGASA said the typhoon was spotted 1,040 kilometers east of Surigao City as of 4 a.m. Thursday.

The typhoon was packing winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph and was moving west-northwest at 15 kph.
PAGASA forecaster Manny Mendoza also said Dodong is most likely to re-curve and just graze the eastern side of Luzon and will bring heavy to at times intense rainfall within its 150-to-200-km radius.

The typhoon is expected to affect the eastern section of the Visayas in the next 24 hours.
PAGASA said Dodong will be 685 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, by Friday morning, 450 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, by Saturday morning, and 280 km southeast of Casiguran, Aurora, by Sunday morning.
