Indonesian president to give disbursement to all cities

Indonesian president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Thursday said he was considering a plan to disburse around Rp 100 billion (US$7.6 million) to 98 cities nationwide to give them the opportunity to develop their own characters and identities, according to the Jakarta Post.

"Starting next year, the central government will disburse more or less than Rp 100 billion to the cities," Jokowi said while opening the national meeting of the Indonesian City Administration Association (Apeksi) in Ambon, Maluku, on Thursday.

However, Jokowi added the funds could only be used "to build, for example, markets or roads" and other infrastructure such as bridges and ports.

He said the disbursement would also depend on whether the cities have implemented e-budgeting or a comprehensive one-stop service for business licensing.
