SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- South Korean Olympic organizers have named U.S. Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn as an honorary ambassador for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.
Pyeongchang's organizing committee said on Wednesday that Vonn is the first foreign individual it appointed for the role. She joins a list of high-profile South Korean sports stars such as former Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na and Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo.
Vonn, 30, an Olympic gold medalist and the all-time wins leader in women's World Cup Alpine skiing, missed the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, nursing a knee injury. Vonn recently announced that she ended her relationship of nearly three years with U.S. golfer Tiger Woods.
