Eric Chu arrives in Beijing for 1st meeting with Xi Jinping

Beijing, May 3 (CNA) Eric Chu (???), chairman of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang (KMT), arrived in Beijing Sunday for his first meeting with Xi Jinping (???), general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese president, the following day. Chu, who is making a three-day visit to China, arrived in the Chinese capital after concluding a visit to Shanghai, where he attended an annual economic and cultural forum between the KMT and CPC and a meeting with over 100 Taiwanese businesspeople in China. While in Beijing, Chu and about 20 KMT officials also attended a banquet hosted by Guo Jinlong (???), secretary of the CPC's Beijing Municipal Committee, on Sunday evening. The following day, he will meet with Xi at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and after that, he will speak to students and faculty at Peking University, before visiting the Temple of Azure Clouds, which houses a Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Chu noted that he was a visiting professor at Peking University 20 years ago and said he last visited the university 17 years ago to celebrate the school's 100th anniversary.
